Itinerary

Day One

Fly to Ireland, meet your Tour Manager at the airport and relax aboard our coach as it carries you to your hotel.

After check-in you're free to relax, enjoy the hotel's leisure facilities or stroll down the riverside path into the lively town of Sligo. Here, St John's Cathedral and the Sligo Art Gallery are well worth a visit, and the County Museum is a must for Yeats devotees.

Day Two

Today begins with a visit to the county town of Fermanagh, Enniskillen, which shelters beneath the walls of its castle on an island in the River Erne. From there we'll visit Florence Court, where a guided tour will bring the history of this fine Georgian house to life.

Our final stop will be Belleek Pottery. The museum here includes local ceramics dating back to 1857 and a short tour will take you through the production areas and give you the chance to chat to some of the potters who work there today.

Day Three

Parke's Castle, on the north-western shore of Lough Gill, is our first stop this morning. After time to explore this beautifully restored 17th-century plantation castle we'll board The Rose of Innisfree for a short cruise around the "lake isle" that was the subject of Yeats' most famous poem.

Once back in Sligo you'll have the afternoon you yourselves, though you may like to join us for an optional city tour and a trip along the Wild Atlantic Way to Rosses Point.

Day Four

Learn about the history of the Irish wool industry as we cross into County Mayo and visit Foxford Woollen Mills, today. After a self-guided multimedia tour you'll have the chance to see master craftsmen at work in the weaving shed before we continue to Westport.

Voted the best place to live in Ireland in 2012, Westport sits on the southeast corner of Clew Bay beneath the slopes of Croagh Patrick, Ireland's 'holy mountain'. Wander around the harbour to the Quay area where the old coastguard station and warehouses now house bars, cafes and restaurants, or stroll along the tree-lined Mall.

Day Five

Today's tour begins with a trip to Glencar Waterfall, made famous in Yeats' 'The Stolen Child', and ends with a stop at Drumcliffe Church, where the poet's grave is marked with a simple headstone.

In between, we'll visit Lissadell House and Gardens, former home of the extraordinary suffragette, politician and Irish independence heroine Countess Markievicz - Constance Georgine Gore-Booth, and follow another stretch of the Wild Atlantic Way to the seaside town of Mullaghmore.

Day Six

After a final few hours relaxing or exploring Sligo, board our coach for the journey back to the airport to catch your flight home.

Further Information

Hotel transfer times

The transfer time from the airport to your hotel is approximately three hours.

Combining hotel transfers

We sometimes need to combine transfers to and from your hotel. We always try to keep any wait to a minimum, but you may be asked to wait at the airport for up to an hour, while other incoming flights arrive, before the transfer to your hotel. Similarly, we may need to transfer you back to the airport up to three hours before your flight home departs.

Train journeys

Please note, the West Highland and Kyle lines are both scheduled ScotRail services, and use diesel-powered engines. In the unlikely event of a steam locomotive breaking down on the Strathspey Railway, we reserve the right to substitute the engine with a diesel locomotive. All train journeys are single journeys.

Special requirements

If you have notified us of any special requirements, please check that they have been noted and acknowledged. This is especially important with any dietary needs you may have.

Disabled access

The majority of our tours involve a certain amount of walking, including a short walk from the coach stop to the town, attraction or venue you're visiting. If you are bringing a wheelchair, please let us know at the time of booking so that appropriate arrangements can be made.

Itinerary changes

Occasionally, for operational reasons, we may have to change the order of the excursions on your holiday. The final day-by-day itinerary will be confirmed on your Final Travel Documents, which you will receive approximately three weeks prior to your departure.

Airport development fees

An Airport Development Fee has been introduced at a few UK Airports. You will be required to pay this charge at the following airports prior to checking in for your flight: Blackpool, Durham Tees Valley, Newquay and Norwich. The amount varies from airport to airport, but it is generally between £5 and £10 per person. Please visit the airport's website for further information.
