Itinerary

Day One

Fly to Dublin Airport, meet your Tour Manager and transfer to your hotel. Once checked in you're free to relax and unwind. Make the most of the hotel's leisure facilities or perhaps explore delightful Enniscorthy, which lies just a short stroll along the riverside path from the hotel.

Day Two

Afer a leisurely morning, we'll head to the county's ancient capital, Wexford. This lively, friendly town, with its pretty quayside and narrow winding streets, still retains reminders of its Viking and Norman past.

Day Three

Today's excursion takes you to the dramatic uplands of the Wicklow Mountains - much of which is a protected National Park.

The day's first visit is to Ireland's most famous country estate, Powerscourt. This magnificent Palladian mansion houses a range of interesting shops and a cafe, and is surrounded by stunning formal gardens. Follow the sweep of the ornate Italian Garden down to Triton Lake, see the exquisite Japanese Garden, and wander the formal walks of the rose and kitchen gardens.

In the afternoon you'll visit the ancient monastic site at Glendalough, where the extraordinary relics include a vast, roofless cathedral and the famous Round Tower.

Day Four

Our first stop today will be New Ross, where we'll visit the Dunbrody Famine Ship, an authentic reproduction of an 1840s emigrant vessel. Here a guided tour, costumed performers and themed exhibitions will provide a unique insight into the bravery and fortitude of the Irish people over the years of the potato famines.

From New Ross we'll continue to historic Waterford. Stroll the cobbled streets and picturesque quayside of historic Waterford, and explore its two cathedrals and 1000-year-old Reginald's Tower. During our visit we'll also enjoy a tour around the Waterford Crystal factory, and see skilled craftsmen as they blow, cut, engrave and sculpt the famous glass into fabulous works of art.

Day Five

The ancient city of Kilkenny, former capital of Ireland, beckons today. Here you'll find Rothe House, the only example of an early 17th-century merchant's townhouse in Ireland, and have time to browse Kilkenny Art and Design Centre, or discover the art of brewing at the Smithwick's Experience. Don't miss the chance to explore Kilkenny's dramatically sited castle, which dates back to the 12th Century, and the splendid parklands that surround it.

Day Six

This morning we'll return to Dublin. Depending on your flight time, there may be time for a short city tour, and even a spot of shopping and sightseeing, before we head to the airport to catch the flight home.

Further Information

Hotel transfer times

The transfer time from the airport to your hotel is approximately three hours.

Combining hotel transfers

We sometimes need to combine transfers to and from your hotel. We always try to keep any wait to a minimum, but you may be asked to wait at the airport for up to an hour, while other incoming flights arrive, before the transfer to your hotel. Similarly, we may need to transfer you back to the airport up to three hours before your flight home departs.

Train journeys

Please note, the West Highland and Kyle lines are both scheduled ScotRail services, and use diesel-powered engines. In the unlikely event of a steam locomotive breaking down on the Strathspey Railway, we reserve the right to substitute the engine with a diesel locomotive. All train journeys are single journeys.

Special requirements

If you have notified us of any special requirements, please check that they have been noted and acknowledged. This is especially important with any dietary needs you may have.

Disabled access

The majority of our tours involve a certain amount of walking, including a short walk from the coach stop to the town, attraction or venue you're visiting. If you are bringing a wheelchair, please let us know at the time of booking so that appropriate arrangements can be made.

Itinerary changes

Occasionally, for operational reasons, we may have to change the order of the excursions on your holiday. The final day-by-day itinerary will be confirmed on your Final Travel Documents, which you will receive approximately three weeks prior to your departure.

Airport development fees

An Airport Development Fee has been introduced at a few UK Airports. You will be required to pay this charge at the following airports prior to checking in for your flight: Blackpool, Durham Tees Valley, Newquay and Norwich. The amount varies from airport to airport, but it is generally between £5 and £10 per person. Please visit the airport's website for further information.
