Itinerary

Day One

Fly to Isle of Man airport where our coach will carry you to your hotel in Douglas. After checking in you'll have the rest of the day free to discover the town. Take the horse-drawn tram along the seafront, stop for a drink and a bite to eat in one of the cafes and relaxed restaurants around North Quay, or uncover the island's history at the Manx Museum.

Day Two

Once a complex network that served most of the island, the Isle of Man Steam Railway is now a single 15-mile route through woods, request stops, tiny stations and sea views to Castletown. Here you'll have time to walk the battlements of Castle Rushden and see the debating chamber of the island's 19th-century parliament building, before returning to the train to continue your journey to Port Erin.

Once in Port Erin you're free to explore - the beaches and views are glorious, and the Railway Museum is well worth a visit (payable locally) - then return to Douglas by train after perhaps visiting the recreated crofting community at Cregneash Folk Village.

Day Three

Today we'll head to Derby Castle station to board the lovingly maintained Victorian and Edwardian trains of the Manx Electric Railway (MER) for the scenic 17-mile journey to Ramsey. After time to explore here we'll board our coach and continue to Peel. See the ruins of Peel Castle on its little peninsula on the tip of the marina, or visit the town's Celtic heritage and transport museums before we wind our way back through the Manx countryside to Douglas.

Day Four

Our second journey on the MER takes us to Laxey, site of the world's largest working waterwheel. Here we'll change lines and ride the Snaefell Mountain Railway through the spectacular scenery to the summit of Snaefell 2000 feet above.

Returning to Douglas you'll have the rest of the day free before your final dinner at the hotel.

Day Five

After a leisurely start we'll return to the airport, and check in for our flight back to mainland UK.

Further Information

Hotel transfer times

The transfer time from the airport to your hotel is approximately three hours.

Combining hotel transfers

We sometimes need to combine transfers to and from your hotel. We always try to keep any wait to a minimum, but you may be asked to wait at the airport for up to an hour, while other incoming flights arrive, before the transfer to your hotel. Similarly, we may need to transfer you back to the airport up to three hours before your flight home departs.

Train journeys

Please note, the West Highland and Kyle lines are both scheduled ScotRail services, and use diesel-powered engines. In the unlikely event of a steam locomotive breaking down on the Strathspey Railway, we reserve the right to substitute the engine with a diesel locomotive. All train journeys are single journeys.

Special requirements

If you have notified us of any special requirements, please check that they have been noted and acknowledged. This is especially important with any dietary needs you may have.

Disabled access

The majority of our tours involve a certain amount of walking, including a short walk from the coach stop to the town, attraction or venue you're visiting. If you are bringing a wheelchair, please let us know at the time of booking so that appropriate arrangements can be made.

Itinerary changes

Occasionally, for operational reasons, we may have to change the order of the excursions on your holiday. The final day-by-day itinerary will be confirmed on your Final Travel Documents, which you will receive approximately three weeks prior to your departure.

Airport development fees

An Airport Development Fee has been introduced at a few UK Airports. You will be required to pay this charge at the following airports prior to checking in for your flight: Blackpool, Durham Tees Valley, Newquay and Norwich. The amount varies from airport to airport, but it is generally between £5 and £10 per person. Please visit the airport's website for further information.
