Resort Information

One of the most popular towns in Ireland's north, with a host of modern facilities, Letterkenny in County Donegal is an ideal base for exploring this lovely area. Dominated by the vast cathedral of Saints Eunan and Colomba, the town lies just north of the River Swilly, and a short distance from beautiful Lough Swilly.

Itinerary

Day One

Fly to Belfast, meet your tour manager and transfer to your hotel. Depending on your arrival time, you'll be able to spend the rest of the day exploring the town of Letterkenny or relaxing in a pub or cafe.

Day Two

Today we'll head to Donegal, where a rich history is reflected in an imposing Jacobean castle and an ancient marketplace, the 'Diamond'. Wander the streets, or take a 70-minute water bus trip (payable locally) around Donegal Bay, before we return to our hotel.

Day Three

This morning we'll reach the windswept coast of County Antrim for our visit to the Giant's Causeway. Long associated with legendary Irish hero Finn McCool, its basalt columns, which rise like stepping stones from the Atlantic, were in fact formed after a volcanic eruption 60 million years ago. Take the minibus from the visitor centre to the Causeway, or walk the mile or so along the cliff path and marvel at the breathtaking views.

After time for lunch (payable locally), we'll continue to Dunluce Castle, one of the most extensive ruins of a medieval castle in Northern Ireland, rising dramatically from the rocks above the wild sea. Explore this stunning place before we return to Letterkenny.

Day Four

The stunning Inishowen Peninsula is home to Ireland's most northerly point, Malin Head. Visit the Doagh Isle Famine Village, where 19th-century Irish life is recreated, before continuing through the remote peninsula town of Carndonagh to see wild, windswept Malin. You'll return this evening to Letterkenny.

Day Five

Today, admire the contrasting scenery of rugged, remote Glenveagh National Park and Glenveagh Castle, in its peaceful setting overlooking Lough Veagh. Enjoy a guided tour of the historic castle, with its turrets, round keep and spectacular gardens.

We'll continue to the coastline, via Mount Errigal and through Dunlewy village to Bunbeg, where, weather permitting, you may like a short stroll on the beautiful beach. Then it's up and around the Bloody Foreland, named for the red hue of the rocks at sunset, to the little village of Gortahawk and back to Letterkenny.

Day Six

Transfer back to Belfast for your flight home, taking with you some wonderful memories of this very special part of the world.

Further Information

Hotel transfer times

The transfer time from the airport to your hotel is approximately three hours.

Combining hotel transfers

We sometimes need to combine transfers to and from your hotel. We always try to keep any wait to a minimum, but you may be asked to wait at the airport for up to an hour, while other incoming flights arrive, before the transfer to your hotel. Similarly, we may need to transfer you back to the airport up to three hours before your flight home departs.

Train journeys

Please note, the West Highland and Kyle lines are both scheduled ScotRail services, and use diesel-powered engines. In the unlikely event of a steam locomotive breaking down on the Strathspey Railway, we reserve the right to substitute the engine with a diesel locomotive. All train journeys are single journeys.

Special requirements

If you have notified us of any special requirements, please check that they have been noted and acknowledged. This is especially important with any dietary needs you may have.

Disabled access

The majority of our tours involve a certain amount of walking, including a short walk from the coach stop to the town, attraction or venue you're visiting. If you are bringing a wheelchair, please let us know at the time of booking so that appropriate arrangements can be made.

Itinerary changes

Occasionally, for operational reasons, we may have to change the order of the excursions on your holiday. The final day-by-day itinerary will be confirmed on your Final Travel Documents, which you will receive approximately three weeks prior to your departure.

Airport development fees

An Airport Development Fee has been introduced at a few UK Airports. You will be required to pay this charge at the following airports prior to checking in for your flight: Blackpool, Durham Tees Valley, Newquay and Norwich. The amount varies from airport to airport, but it is generally between £5 and £10 per person. Please visit the airport's website for further information.
